FicLand (the “App”) is developed by FicLand team.
FicLand provides users with a platform for reading fiction and is committed to respecting and protecting user privacy. This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we may collect when you use the App, how that information may be used, and the measures we take to safeguard it.
By downloading, accessing, or using FicLand, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
2. Age Restrictions
FicLand is not designed or intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly request or collect personal information from anyone below the age of 13.
For users located in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the minimum permitted age is 16, unless valid parental or guardian consent has been obtained in accordance with applicable local laws.
If we become aware that an underage individual has used the App or provided personal information without the required authorization, we will remove the relevant account and associated information within 72 hours.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information You Provide to Us
Depending on how you use FicLand, you may voluntarily provide the following information:
Account Registration Information: This may include your username, email address, hashed password, and optional profile information, such as your reading preferences.
Third-Party Login Information: If you create or access your account through Google, Apple, or Facebook, we may receive basic profile information authorized by you, such as your name and email address.
Payment Information: We may retain information relating to your purchase history and billing address. Payment-related information is securely processed through Stripe, which is compliant with PCI-DSS requirements.
User-Generated Information: This may include bookmarks, reading progress, comments, and stories uploaded by users. Uploaded story content is encrypted while stored.
3.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you access or use the App, certain information may be collected automatically, including:
Device Information: This may include your operating system version, device model, IP address, and advertising identifier. Advertising identifiers can generally be reset through your device settings.
Usage and Performance Information: We may collect information such as chapter completion rates, interactions with App features, and crash reports. Google Analytics for Firebase may be used to process this information.
Cookies and Similar Technologies: Session cookies may be used to maintain your login status and provide continuity between sessions. Amplitude may also be used to collect aggregated analytics information.
4. Data Sharing
We do not share personal information except when it is necessary to operate the App, comply with legal obligations, or complete a legitimate business transaction. Information may be shared in the following circumstances:
Cloud Storage Services: Amazon Web Services (AWS) may be used to securely store encrypted story information.
Customer Support Services: Zendesk may process and store customer support requests and responses. Support ticket records are retained for 90 days.
Legal and Regulatory Requirements: Information will only be disclosed in response to a valid and legally enforceable request, such as a court order.
Business Transfers: If FicLand is acquired, merged, reorganized, or transferred as part of a business transaction, relevant user information may also be transferred. Users will be notified at least 30 days before such a transfer takes effect.
5. Legal Basis and Purposes of Processing
We collect and process information only for purposes connected with operating, securing, and improving FicLand. These purposes include:
Providing Essential App Functions: We use relevant information to synchronize reading progress across multiple devices and provide personalized story recommendations.
Enhancing the User Experience: We may review anonymized or aggregated reading trends to improve content discovery functions and recommendation algorithms.
Protecting the App and Its Users: Information may be used to identify suspicious or fraudulent accounts and to detect potential copyright violations involving stories uploaded by users.
6. International Data Transfers
Information collected through FicLand may be stored or processed in the United States and Germany.
Where personal information is transferred across national or regional borders, we use appropriate safeguards designed to protect the transferred information. These safeguards may include:
The EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for users in the European Union or the United Kingdom.
Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), where required or otherwise applicable.
7. Data Retention
We keep information only for as long as it is reasonably necessary to provide the App, fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, or comply with applicable legal requirements.
Active Accounts: Information associated with an active account will generally be retained until the user deletes the account.
Inactive Accounts: Accounts and associated information may be permanently removed after 24 consecutive months of inactivity.
Legally Required Records: Payment transaction records may be archived for seven years when required by applicable tax laws.
After the applicable retention period expires, information will be deleted or anonymized unless continued retention is legally required.
8. Security Measures
We apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to reduce the risk of unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, loss, or misuse of user information.
Our security practices include:
Encryption: Stories uploaded by users are protected using AES-256 encryption while stored. Information transmitted between your device and our services is protected using TLS 1.2 or a more recent security protocol.
Access Management: Employee access to information is limited according to job responsibilities and role-based permission controls. Security audits are conducted twice each year.
Security Vulnerability Reporting: Security researchers who identify a potential vulnerability may report it to contact@ficland.com.
Although we use appropriate safeguards, no method of electronic storage or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
9. User Rights
Subject to applicable privacy laws, you may exercise the following rights regarding your personal information:
Access and Export: You may obtain a copy of your reading history by selecting Settings > Privacy > “Export My Data” within the App.
Correction and Deletion: You may update your profile information directly in the App. You may also request account or information deletion by contacting contact@ficland.com. Valid deletion requests will normally be processed within 14 days.
Analytics and Advertising Preferences: You may limit certain analytics or advertising-related processing through your device settings. On iOS, this may be available under “Limit Ad Tracking.” On Android, this may be available under “Opt out of Ads Personalization.”
We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, information practices, or legal obligations.
If an update materially affects how information is collected, used, or shared, we will provide notice through an in-app banner or by email at least 30 days before the updated terms take effect.
The date shown at the beginning of this Privacy Policy indicates when it was most recently updated.
11. Language
This Privacy Policy may be made available in languages other than English for the convenience of users.
In the event of any inconsistency, ambiguity, or conflict between the English version and a translated version, the English version will be considered the legally binding and controlling version. All translations are provided for reference and convenience only.
